Stanton Vineyards - Locations - Varieties

The Stanton family grows several varieties of grapes on 75 acres of vineyards at three locations in the Napa Valley: Oakville, Mills Lane in St. Helena, and J.B. Ranch also located in St. Helena.

Stanton Oakville Vineyard
Oakville - 33 acres
In 1971, Doug Stanton’s father, John Stanton, planted grapes on this 33 acre property in Oakville on valley floor land that has gravelly, sandy clay and loam soils producing grapes of rich suppleness and texture. This vineyard produces three varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and Merlot. Stanton Vineyard’s Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from this Oakville property.

Oakville’s unique topography, soil and climate blend together to make this appellation a viticultural treasure that is home to many of the most renowned wineries in the world including Screaming Eagle, Joseph Phelps and Stanton Vineyards.

Out of this 33 acre property, only 2 acres (approximately 8 tons) of the grapes are dedicated to the Stanton Vineyard label. The rest is sold to premium wineries including Stags Leap, Merryvale, Raymond, Orin Swift, Groth and more.

Stanton Mills Lane, St. Helena Vineyard
Mills Lane, St. Helena - 20 acres
This property in the acclaimed winemaking territory of St.Helena, is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Verdot and Petite Sirah. Personally farmed and cultivated by the Stanton Family and their employees, all grapes produced at this property are sold to prominent wineries in the Napa Valley region.

Stanton JB Ranch (Dowdell Lane), St. Helena Vineyard
JB Ranch, St. Helena - 22 acres
Located in the heart of St. Helena, Stanton Vineyard’s JB Ranch spans 22 acres and is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Mourvedre, and Petite Sirah. A small portion of the Petite Sirah grown on this vineyard property is dedicated to the Stanton Vineyard Petite Sirah label (just 200-300 cases produced).

Winegrowing Philosophy:
"Producing wines has made us better farmers," explains Doug Stanton. "We see the connection." Stanton Vineyards keeps less than 5-7% of the grapes they grow at their three vineyard properties for their own wine label production. The rest is sought after by the finest names in the wine industry. A true boutique winery, Stanton Vineyards believes in quality, not quantity. They plan to keep production to approximately 800 cases a year so that they can focus their energies on producing the exceptional grapes they’re known for.
